The biggest project on my DIY resume is Concrete Countertops. Let me start by saying I have never done anything even remotely like this before. I was fortunate enough to work with Z Counterform. A one stop shop for all the materials you need to pour concrete countertops. But This sounds like an incredibly hard project doesn’t it? It’s definitely an intimidating one. You can’t let that stop you. You never know until you try
Before you start on your project you need to do a practice run. Build a small form using plywood and test your process. Once you’re happy with how the test piece turned out move on to your project. This is a pour in place system so you build the frame right on top of your base cabinets using Hardie Board and the Z Counterforms which come in a variety of edges! Truly an exciting moment for me when I discovered you can have concrete countertops with a fancy radius edge.
Concrete can be stained or made to look like marble, the possibilities are endless. My neutral loving heart decided to go with white concrete. Once the forms are all in place and you’ve attached the z clips and mesh you’re ready to start mixing. Now I was mostly doing this myself but I highly recommend having an extra set of hands. My arms were dead for a week. For mixing concrete I recommend purchasing a concrete mixing tool. Follow the instructions on the bag and mix enough to fill your forms. For a video tutorial on pouring concrete countertops go to Z Counterforms Website.
To seal the countertops I used the Ultra Z Poxy and I highly recommend it!
All tools and supplies needed to complete this project can be purchased from Z Counterforms Website.
